Difficulty Breathing
If your pet is panting heavily, has bluish gums, makes choking sounds, or wheezes, they may be in respiratory distress and require urgent care.
Trauma
Has your pet been in an accident, fallen from a height, or sustained injuries from another animal? Sudden trauma demands immediate veterinary evaluation..
Toxin Ingestion/Allergic Reaction
Ingesting toxic substances or experiencing an allergic reaction can result in swelling, hives, itching, or breathing difficulty. Seek emergency assistance right away.
Seizures
Any seizure, whether a single episode or multiple, especially in pets with no seizure history, is a red flag and requires prompt intervention.
Vomiting/Diarrhea
Ongoing vomiting or diarrhea, particularly if it includes blood or causes visible distress, can quickly become serious and should be treated urgently.
Bloated or Distended Abdomen
A swollen belly, unproductive vomiting, or restlessness may indicate GDV (“bloat”), a life-threatening condition.
Inability to Urinate or Defecate
If your pet struggles to urinate or defecate, especially with little to no output, it could signal a blockage.
Paralysis/Severe Lameness
Sudden inability to move limbs, particularly hind legs in dogs, could point to spinal or neurological issues.
Uncontrolled Bleeding
If your pet is bleeding heavily from a wound, or if blood appears in their urine, stool, or vomit and doesn’t stop with pressure, seek immediate help.
